'Gutty' Midget Eagles lose battle with

Valley by 14

9/12/99 - The Arlington and Valley midget teams played a defensive battle on a warm, sunny day in Valley.  The Eagle defensive unit, playing with guts and determination, allowed only one touchdown against a potent Valley offense.  Valley's offense lost two fumbles and had one interception.  On the flip side, Arlington's offense struggled against Valley's defense throughout the entire game.  The Eagle offense lost three fumbles and had one pass picked off.

Early in the first quarter, both teams exchanged the ball a couple times.  Valley took advantage of an Eagle fumble at Arlington's 43 yard line by marching down the field and scoring.  The extra point was good.

During the 2nd quarter, Valley gained possession of the ball at the Arlington 27 when they blocked an Eagle punt.  A Valley fumble gave the ball back to the Eagles at the 33 yard line.  On 3rd down and 17 yards to go,

Valley intercepted an Adam Loftis pass at the 34 yard line.   Valley took the ball all the way down to the 6 yard line in 6 plays.  On 4th down and 6 to go for the touchdown, the Eagle defense rallied up and stopped Valley at the 1 yard line.  The Eagle offense took over and  looked 99 yards down the field.  On the first snap of the ball, Arlington fumbled in the end zone and

was recovered by Valley.  The extra point was good.  After a Valley kick off and penalty, the Eagles had first down at Valley's 49 yard line.  The Arlington crowd roared with excitement, when Adam Loftis raced 46 yards down to the Valley 5 yard line, however, the ball was brought back due to a holding call.  The Eagle offense ran out of time in the half.

Early in the second half, Arlington offense suffered a blow, when quarterback, Adam Loftis, left the field with an injury.  Arlington's offense had a great opportunity when Trevor Cucinello recovered a blocked punt.  But, the Eagle offense, lead by second-string quarterback, Cucinello, couldn't get the ball into the end zone.  Defense on both sides dominated the fourth quarter.  The Eagles got an interception at the Valley 21, but couldn't punch it in.  Seth Pearson, third-string quarterback, came in late in the fourth quarter to relieve an injured Cucinello, however, a Pearson run around left side fell short when time expired.

Final score:  Arlington 0   Valley 14

The Eagle midget team will take on the EVW Jaguars on Sunday, September 19th, 3:00pm at the Arlington High School field.
