Midget Eagles defeat Gretna 40 - 12 10/17/99 - The Midget Eagles (5-1) proved they were one of the top teams in the league by beating a good Gretna team, 40 to 12. It was the Eagle offensive blockers consisting of Nathan Hilgenkamp, Cole Kratochvil, Lance Peterson, Taylor Escamilla, Robbie Mohon, Evan French/Rudy Jackson, John Kecy/Dillon Johnson, Tucker Merz and Andy Schutt which provided the holes for a high scoring game. In the first quarter, after stopping the Bear's opening drive, the Eagles completed a 47 yard pass play to Seth Pearson running down to the Bear 5 yard line. The Eagles punched it in from the left side for the score. Later in the first quarter, an Eagle 75 yard kick return was called back on a penalty. The Bear offense took the penalty and marched in for the score. The first quarter ended with the score being tied, 6 to 6. Gretna successfully recovered an on-side kick at the beginning of the second quarter, but fumbled on their next play. The Eagle offense quickly scored on a 51 yard run by Adam Monke. The extra point was good. After a couple of exchanges of the ball, the Gretna offense took advantage of an Eagle fumble and passed their way into the end zone. The half ended with Arlington on top 19 to 12. In the second half, the Eagle defense didn't allow another Bear score. Early in the third quarter, the Eagle back, Adam Monke, ran 44 yards round the left side of the Bear defense and scored. The Eagle defense came up with the big play in the fourth quarter. Eagle, Andy Schutt, tackled the Bear punter behind the line of scrimmage on a fourth down (fake punt) run. Several plays later, Adam Loftis ran around the right side, 25 yards, for the touchdown. The Eagles were looking to score again when Tucker Merz ran 20 yards up the middle of the Bear defense to the Gretna 34-yard line. On fourth down, at the 10-yard line, the Eagle field goal fell short. However, on the Bear's first play, Eagle defender, Trevor Cucinello, intercepted the ball at the Bear 15 yard line and went in for the final score. Eagles 40 Bears 12. The Midget's next game is on October 24th , 3 PM, at the Arlington High school field. Article written by AYF Correspondent, Paul Thies. |
