Midget Eagles tame Blair Bears, 31 - 0 10/24/99 - On a cool and breezy Sunday afternoon, the Midget Eagles (6-1) ended the regular season on a high note, putting up 31 offensive points on the board and not allowing the Bears in the end zone. During the first quarter, the Eagle defense stopped the Blair Bears and forced them to punt. The Eagle offense took over at the Arlington 39 yard line and drove down the field to score with Seth Pearson running around the left side of the Bear defense. After the Eagle kick off, the Bears drove down to the Arlington 30-yard line, however, were driven back 15 yards during the next series of downs by a determined Eagle defense. After a Bear punt, the Eagle offense had the ball at the Arlington 4 yard line. The Eagle had offense made three major plays to increase their lead over the Bears: 1) a 41 yard run, 2) a 22 yard pass play and 3) a 37 yard run for the touchdown with 3:53 left in the second quarter. After stopping the Bears all three downs, the Eagles fielded the punt and had the ball at their 42-yard line with two minutes left in the half. They picked up the first down at the Bear 43 yard line, however, precious seconds were used. Then something special happened with only seconds remaining on the clock. The quarterback pitchout was fumbled. Adam Loftis picked up the bouncing ball on the Arlington 40-yard line (17 yards behind the line of scrimmage) and started to run down the right sideline. He avoided two Bear tacklers and nearly went out of bounds at the Bear 45 yard line. He got some blocks and darted around two other Bear defenders near the 30-yard line. He followed his blockers and darted between two Bears near the 20-yard line, then poured it on to score the third touchdown of the game. The extra point, with Robbie Mohon running around left side, was good and the Eagles led 19 - 0 at the half. The Eagle offense started in the hole to open the third quarter. After receiving the kick and making two major penalties, the Eagles had the ball on the Eagle 7-yard line. However, in four consecutive running plays of 24,18, 26 and 25 yards, the Eagle offense scored again with 6:35 left in the third quarter. It appeared the Eagles were going to score again in the third quarter, when Trevor Cucinello ran 35 yards for a touchdown, however, it was called back on a penalty. Trevor made it up on the next play with a 28-yard pass play to Tyler Chappelear to the Bear 17-yard line, but the Eagle offense couldn't punch it in for the score. After stopping the Bears again, the Eagles got possession of the ball on the Eagle 48-yard line. It only took one 52-yard running play to add another 6 points to the score. The Eagle defense stopped a Bear drive down to the Eagle 6-yard line to keep the Bears scoreless, as time ran out.
