Midget Eagles defeat Elkhorn to take 2nd place

10/31/99 - Last Sunday, the Midget Eagles (7-1) beat the Elkhorn Packers 20 - 8 to finish second in the final EVW Midget football standings.  It was a tremendous season for the Midgets in the EVW league.  They outscored their opponents 192 to 55 and dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage for the majority of their games.

The first quarter started slow when the defensive units on both teams stopped the opening offensive drives.  After making a few adjustments, the Eagle offense busted a 64-yard running play by Seth Pearson around the left side of the Packer defense and scored.  The extra point was successful.

During the second quarter, the Eagle offense gained possession of ball after the Packers fumbled on their 48-yard line.  The Packer defense stiffened and on fourth down, the Eagles needed five yards.   Eagle Coach, Wyatt Schroeder, called for a fake punt and offensive line performed it flawlessly.  Seth Pearson sneaked through the Packer defense and ran 43 yards for the score.   The extra point by Adam Monke was good.  After the kickoff, the Eagle defense rose to the challenge and forced a fumble on the Packer 33-yard line.  With 1:07 left in the half, Adam Loftis took a pitch and raced 35 yards around the right side of the Packer defense for the score.  The Arlington Eagles led the Packers, 20 to 0 to end the half.

It was purely a defensive battle in the third quarter, when both offensive units couldn't take advantage of key turnovers to score.  With minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Packers scored on a 35 yard run.  The game ended with the Eagles on top 20 to 8.

The Midget's will play in the 1999 Midwest Midget Football Classic against the Ralston Rams on November 6th (Saturday), 12 noon, at the Omaha Benson High School football stadium, 52nd and Maple.
