Pee Wees take EVW trophy.

The Arlington Eagle Pee Wee team took home the first place EVW championship trophy on Sunday, defeating the Valley Terriers 25 - 6.  The Eagle defense proved once again to be extremely solid, consistently denying the Valley offense a chance to gain momentum throughout the game.

Sunday turned out to be a beautiful  day to play football as Valley and Arlington, each with one loss on the season, squared off to determine which team would emerge as champion.  Arlington kicked to Valley to open the contest, the Terriers returning the ball to the 50 yard line.  Valley was able to move the ball the Eagle 32 yard line before Arlington forced the Terriers to turn the ball over on downs.  The Arlington offense then moved the ball into Valley territory, when Thomas Grove scored on a long run through the Terrier defense.  The play was called back on an Eagle clipping call, but Grove, proving that the first score was not a fluke, ran for another Eagle touchdown.  Quarterback Adam Hamre added the point after on a sweep play, and Arlington took a 7 - 0 lead with 1:50 remaining in the first quarter.

Valley took the next kickoff and ran the ball back all the way to the Arlington 32 yard line, but the Eagle defense held again and the first quarter ended.  The Terriers were unable to muster any offense as Chase Kratochvil recovered a Valley fumble at the Valley 44 yard line.  Arlington also struggled offensively, being forced to punt the ball back to the Terriers.  Valley then took the ball and, on a 40 yard sweep, moved to the Eagle 10 yard line with 1:13 remaining in the half.  The Arlington defense once again stepped up, and with 4th down and 1 yard to go, Nathan Korus made a critical stop to keep Valley out of the end zone before time ran out of the first half.

Arlington took the opening kickoff of the second half, and starting from the Valley 44 yard line, moved the ball down to the Terrier one foot line.  Quarterback Adam Hamre then scooted around the right side of the Eagle line to score.  The point after failed and the Eagles led 13 - 0.  Valley followed by taking the kickoff and racing all the way to the Eagle end zone, spoiling any chance of an Arlington shutout.  The Terrier point after failed, but the Eagle lead was cut to 13 - 6.  Both teams traded offensive efforts before time ran out in the third quarter.

The forth quarter opened with Arlington driving against a tough Valley defense, but strong offensive efforts by Grove and Hamre finally resulted in Hamre scoring on another quarterback sweep with 5:00 remaining in the game.  On the next kickoff, Jordan Johnson made an excellent tackle pinning Valley on their own 37 yard line.  The Eagle defense once again held, forcing the Terriers into a 4th down and 7 situation.  Adam Hamre then intercepted a Valley pass and returned the ball to the Terrier 30 yard line.  Quarterback Kyle Reinhardt scored on the next play, moving the score to 25 - 6 with 2:44 remaining in the game.  The Eagles closed the game out by stopping the Valley offense once again.

After the game, the Eagles took possession of the EVW league trophy for winning the championship game.  Arlington will play one more game, taking on the Papillion Chargers on Saturday, November 6 at 10:15am at Benson High School, 52nd and Maple in Omaha.
