Eagle Pee Wees defeat Valley 20-7

9/12/99 - The Arlington Eagle Pee Wee team defeated the Valley Terriers, 20-7 on Sunday afternoon to move their record to 2 wins, 0 losses on the season.  The Eagles started the game by kicking off to Valley, but a fumble recovery by Claire Rogers on the second play from scrimmage quickly put the Arlington offense to the test.  Thomas Grove was able to score on a sweep around the right side of the line to score the first Arlington touchdown.  The point after was successful and the Eagles were up 7-0.  The Eagle defense was able to hold the Terriers for the rest of the first quarter without a score.

In the second quarter, Kyle Reinhardt broke open on a quarterback keeper around the left side of the line and scored to put the Eagles up 13-0.  The point after failed.  It was now time for the Arlington defense to step up.  Valley began to build up a good offensive drive, but Nick Mohon made a critical tackle on a Valley reverse play that stalled the Terriers and kept them scoreless into halftime.

The second half began with the Eagles receiving the kickoff, but a fumble ended the drive.  Both defenses stiffened throughout the third period and the quarter ended with neither team scoring.

The forth quarter started with an Arlington drive which took them down to the Valley 2 yard line.  Running back Jordan Johnson punched into the end zone on a dive play over the middle, and quarterback Adam Hamre added the point after to put the Eagles up 20-0.  Valley was able to mount a drive and scored quickly on the Eagle defense and added the point after, bringing the score to 20-7.  On the following series, Reinhardt again scored on a quarterback keeper play, but the points didn't stay as a penalty brought the play back.   Valley got the ball back on downs, but hopes for a forth quarter comeback were dashed when Claire Rogers got her second turnover of the game, intercepting a Terrier pass and clinching the game for the Eagles.

The Arlington defense firmly held Valley in check throughout the game, and the offense was able to capitalize on some big plays to secure the victory.  The Pee Wee team will take on the Bennington Broncos on Sunday, September 19th, 1:00pm at the Arlington High School field.

The Pee Wee team is made up of boys and girls age 8, 9 and 10.  Practice began on August 9.
