Eagle Pee Wees defeat Broncos 13-0

9/19/99 - Sunday's game pitted two undefeated teams, the Arlington Eagles (2-0) and the Bennington Broncos (2-0), and unfortunately, one of the teams had to come away with a loss.  The game began with Arlington receiving the opening kickoff from the Broncos, but the Eagles were unable to mount any kind of offense and turned over the ball on downs.  The Arlington defense returned the favor and held Bennington for the next series.  Neither team was able to gather any momentum, and the 1st quarter ended with no score.

The second quarter began the same way as the previous period, with Arlington driving on the Broncos, but unable to gain a foothold in Bennington territory.  The 1st half was highlighted by extremely strong defenses by both squads and 2 long runs by Thomas Grove which the Eagles were unable to capitalize on, ending in a 0-0 scoreless tie.

The 2nd half began with the Broncos receiving the opening kickoff, but an excellent defensive stand and a 4th down stop by Beau Brown stalled the Bennington drive.  The Eagle offense opened up a bit on a 32 yard quarterback keeper by Adam Hamre, but the play was called back on a penalty.  The 3rd quarter seesaw battle kept the score knotted at 0-0.

The 4th quarter proved to be the pivotal point in the ball game, when Thomas Grove punched through the Bronco line and ran 56 yards to score the first touchdown of the game.  Nick Mohon added the point after, putting the Eagles up 7-0.  The Bennington offense finally got the ball rolling on the next series, but was stopped at the Arlington 23 yard line.  Arlington gave the Broncos another chance when Bennington recovered an Eagle fumble at the 32 yard line.  The Eagle defense stepped up again, and 4 quarterback sacks later, Arlington again gained possession of the ball on downs.   The Arlington offense wasn't done yet though, as Taylor Johnson scored again for the Eagles with :16 seconds remaining in the game.  The point after failed and the game finished with an Eagle victory 13-0, improving their record to 3-0 in EVW play.  The Pee Wee's will play again on Saturday, Sept. 25th against the Saints in Elkhorn.  Game time is 11:30 AM.

The Pee Wee team is made up of boys and girls age 8, 9 and 10.  Practice began on August 9.
