Eagle Pee Wees defeat Packers 19 - 0 On a cool but sunny Sunday afternoon, the Arlington Eagles Pee Wee team took on the league leading Elkhorn Packers for a match pitting two very hard hitting football teams. The Packers took the opening kickoff and began moving against the Eagle defense, gaining two first downs before Nathan Korus recovered a Packer fumble at the Arlington 25 yard line. The Eagle offense then took over but was unable to move against a stubborn Packer defense and Arlington was forced to punt. The remainder of the first quarter see-sawed back and forth between the two teams and ended in a scoreless tie, with neither team gaining a significant advantage. The second quarter began with Arlington driving against the Packer defense, with strong runs by Thomas Grove and Jordan Johnson moving the Eagle offense down to the Packer 1 yard line. The Elkhorn defense then stiffened, putting up a tough goal-line stand, but on a 3rd down play from the 5 yard line, quarterback Adam Hamre connected with Jordan Johnson on a well executed pass play to score the first touchdown of the game. The point after failed and the teams went into halftime with the Eagles up 6 - 0. The defensive highlights of the first half included many tackles behind the Packer offensive line as well as an interception by Eagle safety Adam Hamre. After the half, Arlington and Elkhorn traded offensive efforts with neither team able to put the ball in the end zone before the third quarter ended, and the Eagles holding onto a slim 6 - 0 lead. Things opened up for Arlington in the forth quarter when the Eagles recovered a fumbled lateral pass from the Packers at the Packer 4 yard line. Hamre scored on the next play on a quarterback keeper, but the point after was again unsuccessful. Thomas Grove and Nathan Korus recovered fumbles from the Packers on each of the next offensive series, the later resulting in a touchdown by Kyle Reinhardt, with the point after added by Chase Kratochvil with 2:23 remaining in the game. The Arlington defense held off the final Packer drive to ensure the shutout 19 - 0. The Eagles record now stands at 5 - 1 on the year and they take over the lead the EVW league. Arlington plays their final regular season game this Sunday, October 24th against the Elkhorn Jaguars at 1:00 at the Arlington High School stadium. |
