Arlington VS Blair


       Turnovers Hurt Arlington Midgets in First Loss of the Season

 

The Arlington Midgets football team suffered it's first loss of the season
when they lined up against the Blair Purple team.

Blair took the initial kick-off and methodically moved down the field and
scored with 7 minutes left in the first quarter. The extra point was
successful.

 

Arlington started their first possession at their own 25 yard line. Bruce
Mastin and Thomas Grove picked up huge chunks of yards, behind crushing
blocks from Nathan Korus, Nathan Hilgenkamp, Taylor Escamilla, Doug
Hilzendeger, Jordon Johnson, and Alvin Voss. Arlington moved the ball to
the Blair 25 yard line, but mishandled the ball and Blair recovered the
fumble.

 

Arlington's defense, anchored in the middle by Conor Harper, stiffened and
forced Blair to punt the ball back to Arlington.
Again, Arlington flexed it's muscle and moved the ball down the field.
Bruce Mastin scampered into the end zone, from 24 yards out, to cap the
drive. The extra point failed. Blair 7, Arlington 6.

 

On Blair's next possession, a stiff Arlington run defense and potent pass
defense, headed by Chase Kratochvil, Marshal Hoffman, Cody Falk, Adam
Hamre, and Nick Layman, forced Blair to punt.


An Arlington fumble and a Blair recovery, at Arlington's 33 yard line,
helped Blair add to their lead. Blair took advantage of the opportunity and
scored their second touchdown a few plays later. The extra point failed.
Blair 13, Arlington 6.

 

Blair kicked off to Arlington with just over 4 minutes left in the half.
Blair's defense stiffened and forced Arlington into a punting situation.
Blair blocked the punt and recovered the ball on the Arlington 23 yard
line. Blair then scored with 24 seconds remaining in the first half. Blair
19, Arlington 6.

 

The second half started out with Blair kicking off to Arlington. Arlington
was moving the ball when they coughed the ball up again. Blair capitalized
on the turnover by scoring another touchdown. The extra point was no good.
Blair 25, Arlington 6.

 

On Arlington's next possession, the Eagle's offense put itself into high
gear and marched down the field with Bruce Mastin scoring on an end around.
The extra point run, by Adam Hamre, was good. Blair 25, Arlington 13.

 

Blair was moving towards another score, but the Eagles wouldn't give up.
With hard play by Josh Gloeb, Tyler Kotrous, John Mark Hunter, Beau Brown,
Michael Dobson, Adam Maas, Quinton Cottle, Joseph Hansen, and Stephan Lowe,
the Eagles were able to slow the opponent's progress. In the end, it was
Nathan Hilgenkamp who shut down the scoring threat by intercepting a pass
at the Arlington 25 yard line.

Arlington moved the ball to the 45 yard line, but were forced to punt.
Blair took over at their 15 yard line, but gave it back to us, a few plays
later, on a fumble that was recovered by Thomas Grove.

The game ended with the score Blair 25, Arlington 13.
