Eagles Get Workout in Labor Day Exhibition Game
The Arlington Eagle Pee Wee's participated in an exhibition game over Labor Day weekend against the South Omaha Screaming Eagles. The tug-o-war match was held at "South Hole" with temperatures reaching 102 degrees on the muddy field. Dayton Fox kicked the 20-yard game opener. A series of strong defensive maneuvers by Emmit Scheer, Jared Becker, Brad Beck, Nick Mohan and Troy Theis kept South Omaha scoreless during the first half. At one point, Kyle Reinhardt stunned the Omaha quarterback with a hard-hitting blitz creating a fumble on the field followed by a 22 yard run. J.D. Kauffman nailed the Screaming Eagles with another sack driving South Omaha back ten yards.
The second half provided more opportunity for the team to build their skills with Dillon Thies, Bryce Keber, Zach Cottle and Taylor Frederick providing solid hits against the oversized Omaha team. Jared Becker and James Ruwe slammed down Omaha as they tried a sneak play through the line. J.D. Kauffman picked up an Omaha fumble from the flustered Omaha team on the following play. Omaha retaliated by ending the third quarter ahead by seven.
Arlington tried to even up the score during the fourth quarter with a series of runs lead by Nick Mohon and Matthew Ostrand. The shortened exhibition game ended with a very tired and dirty bunch of boys with a final score of (0-7).
