Gutsy Eagles Force Packers to Earn Their Win
The outsized Pee Wee Eagles forced the oversized Elkhorn Packers to earn their 26 to zip win this past weekend. An early score by the Packers in the first quarter did not daunt the gutsy Eagle team. Troy Thies, Colton Harper and Jared Becker pounded the Packer QB as he worked a series of drives. Matthew Rassmussen with the support of Erik Soll and Bryce Keber followed suit as they pounded Elkhorn into the ground after a quick handoff.
The Eagles suffered a number of heart-wrenching calls throughout the game of which two significantly impacted the outcome. Kyle Reinhardt ran over sixty yards for what appeared to be TD's on two separate occasions. Unfortunately the game officials called penalties on the Eagles and disallowed the scores. Gains by the offensive team were also stymied by the heavy duty Packers to include a tough eight yard run by Dillon Thies as well as a number of shuffle passes to Nick Mohon.
Warm temperatures at game time kept Ross Miller and Philip Rassmussen busy keeping the team refreshed with lots of cool water. At the same time Brad Beck, Ryan Coufal, Taylor Frederick and Kevin Dunklau kept the heat on as they tested the stamina of the Packers front line. Troy Thies capitalized on their strength by making a number of hard won running gains up the middle. Despite a number of turnovers by both teams, the fourth quarter ended with a score of 26-0.
The next game for the Arlington Eagles will be against another tough Elkhorn team (the Cowboys). The game is schedule to begin at 12:00 in Elkhorn on October 22nd.
