RENEGADE EAGLES WIN SCRIMMAGE OPENNER
The Arlington Eagle Renegades (13 & 14 year olds) defeated a tough South Omaha Screaming Eagles team 19 to 7 last Sunday afternoon. The temperature was in the 90's and the field was a muddy mess. This was an opening "pre-season" bowl game for the Renegades.
After the first quarter of play, it was a scoreless game due to some excellent defensive plays on both teams. In the second quarter, the Eagle offense started to find the holes and moved the ball down the to Screaming Eagles 22 yard line. On the next play, the Eagles scored when Adam Monke took the pitch around the left side. The extra point pass was incomplete. After the kickoff, the Eagle defense came up with the big play by recovering a fumble at the Screaming Eagle 34 yard line. However the Eagle offense could not capitalize on the turnover and the half ended with Arlington on top, 6 to 0.
In the third quarter, the Screaming Eagles drove the ball down to the Arlington seven yard line. The Eagle defense stopped South Omaha on the 1st down play to the 3 yard line, but the Screaming Eagles scored on the next play. Their extra point run was good and they went ahead 7 to 6. After receiving the kickoff on the 40 yard line, the Screaming Eagle defense sacked the Eagle quarterback, Adam Loftis, for a five yard loss. On third down and 15 yards to go, Loftis completed a pass to Trevor Cuccinello at the 50 yard line and the drive continued. The Eagles drove down to the South Omaha's 7 yard line and the Eagle offensive line made the holes in the middle of the line for Ben Johnson to score another 6 points. The extra point run was good and Arlington went back on top 13 to 7.
In the fourth quarter, the Screaming Eagles started on their 38 yard line after receiving the kickoff. Eagle defenders, Robie Mohon and Kyle Brown made big plays and backed up the South Omaha Screaming Eagles to their 22 yard line. After an unsportsmanship penalty against the Screaming Eagles, they had to punt the ball on their 7 yard line on 4th down. The punt was fielded at the South Omaha 40 yard line and it didn't take the Arlington Eagles long to score. Adam Monke received the pitch-out and ran 40 yards around the left side of the field for the touchdown. The extra point try was stopped and the game ended with the Eagle Renegades winning 19 to 7.
The Renegades will play next Sunday, September 10th, at 3:30 PM at North High School in Omaha against the Omaha Bengals.
