Eagles: 33        Mustangs: 34

&#September 17, 2000 - Renegade Game Report

The Arlington Eagle Renegade (13 & 14 year old) team came up one
point short on an exciting football game last Sunday afternoon.  The
(Division B) Eagles played out of their league against a (Division A) Omaha
Mustang team and nearly pulled out the upset.

The Mustangs took the football to open the quarter and drove 60
yards in 6 minutes to go ahead 8 to 0.  The Eagles took the ball on the 20
yard line after a Mustang kickoff, but ended up back to the 9 yard on 4th
down.  The Mustangs took the punt at the Arlington 35 yard line, but ran it
back to the 6 yard line.  They punched it in on 1st down and kicked a (2)
point field goal to go ahead 16 to 0.  The Eagles didn't give up.  They
started their drive on the Arlington 47 yard line and the offensive line
with Taylor Escamilla leading the way, quickly opened up a hole up the left
side of the Mustang defensive line for Adam Monke to squirt through to the 2
yard line.  Quarterback, Adam Loftis, took it around to put 6 points on the
board for the Eagles.  A quick pass from Loftis to Cole Kratochvil put
another point on the board to trail the Mustangs by 9 points.

In the beginning of the second quarter, the Mustangs put 6 more
points on the board with a run around the right side of the Eagle defense.
Their extra (2) point kick was no good.  After the Eagle offense couldn't
get a first down, the Mustangs took the Eagle punt at the 48 yard line of
the Mustangs and drove it down to the Arlington 23 yard line.  The Eagle
defensive came up strong and recovered a Mustang fumble at the 28 yard line.
The Eagles drove it from the 28 yard line to the Mustang 34 yard line when
the offensive line provided the hole for Monke to slip through and score.
The extra point was good and the Eagles trailed by 8 points at the end of
half.

The Mustangs took the kickoff and the runner was slammed down by
Trevor Cuccinello at the Arlington 47 yard line.  The Mustangs fumbled the
ball on the next play and the Eagles took over on the Arlington 40 yard
line.  On 3rd down and six, Loftis ran around through the holes made by his
excellent line blocks and ran 56 yards for the score.  With the extra point
failing, Arlington trailed by 2 points.  The Mustangs weren't finished, on
1st down at their own 35 yard line, the Mustang offense ran around the right
side and the Arlington Eagle defensive line and scored.  Lance Peterson
blocked the extra (2) point kick and the Mustangs went ahead 28 to 20.

It seemed like the Mustangs were closing the door on the Eagles,
when they recovered an Eagle fumble on the Mustang 14 yard line and the
Mustang quarterback ran 86 yards to put them ahead 34 to 20, but the Eagles
never gave up.  Arlington received the ball on the 33 yard line and were
driven back 5 yards, when Loftis again followed his offensive line on the
right side of the line and scampered 72 yards for the score.  The extra
point was good and the Eagles came within 8 points.  After the Mustangs
received the ball on the 18 yard line, the Eagle defense drove them back 10
yards to the 8 yard line.  The Mustangs were forced to punt from the goal
line.  The kick went 32 yards and into Loftis' hands who ran the ball down
to the Mustang 2 yard line.  Then on an usual play, Loftis pitched to Monke,
who fumbled, then Monke recovered his fumble in the end zone for the
touchdown.  The extra point failed and Arlington Eagles were only 1 point
behind with 2:32 left to play.  The Eagle defensive again stopped the
Mustangs and they were forced to punt the ball.  The ball came down at the
Mustang 45 yard line and into the hands of Loftis who ran 39 yards along the
right side of the field and out of bounds at the six yard line.  On 3rd down
and goal, the Eagles fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Mustangs.
The Mustangs ran out the clock and the game ended.  Omaha Mustangs 34 and Arlington Eagles 33.
