Eagles: 18           Rebels: 20

Last Ditch Drive Hands Rebels Victory Over Eagles

The Arlington Eagle Renegade (13 & 14 year old) team lost a close game against the Elkhorn Rebels on a cold, windy Sunday afternoon.

After the Eagles took the opening kick at the Arlington 35 yard line, they were facing a 3rd and five.  Wingback, Trevor Cucinello, took the ball on a fake sweep and with his offensive line of Jonathan Bauman, Kyle Brown, Evan French, Robbie Mohon, Alex Anstey and
Cole Kratochvil ran 41 yards down to the Elkhorn 12 yard line.  The Eagles scored five plays later against a tough Elkhorn defensive line, but couldn't convert the extra point.  The Rebels returned the favor and after taking the kick at the Elkhorn 19 yard line, drove it the length of the field to put the Rebels on the score board. The extra (2) point kick, failed. The Eagles returned the Elkhorn kick to Arlington 42 yard line and sustained a drive down to the Elkhorn 18 yard line, but fumbled the ball.  Big defensive plays by Cole Kratochvil, Ben Johnson, Joe Kecy, Mitch Amundson, Adam Monke, Jared Peirce, Adam Loftis, John Kecy and Trevor Cucinello stopped the Elkhorn advance to end the half.

In the second half, the Rebels received the ball and their drive ended with a Cucinello interception at the Arlington 41 yard line, however, the Eagles two plays later fumbled the ball back to Elkhorn.  The Rebels took advantage of the turnover by scoring on the next play.  The Rebels converted the extra (2) point and led 14 to 6 with 5:31 left in the 3rd quarter.  Elkhorn appeared to gain the full momentum of the game by recovering a onside kick at the 50 yard line, however, safety, Adam Loftis, intercepted the Rebel ball on the Arlington 45 yard line.  Then Arlington quickly scored on a 55 yard run by  Cucinello, but failed on the extra point.  The Eagles trailed by 2 points with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

In the fourth quarter, after stopping a Rebels advance to the Arlington 19 yard line, the Eagles moved the ball down to the Elkhorn 25 yard line.  Then quarterback, Adam Loftis, moved to his right and fired the ball to Robbie Mohon who ran in for the score.  The extra point try, failed and the Eagles went ahead by 4 point.  The Rebels took the kickoff to the Arlington 43 yard line, but the Eagle defense stopped them at the 38 on a fourth down play. The Eagles took over the ball with 1:50 to go in the game.  The Eagles were trying to run out the clock and were stopped on a 4th down attempt at the 47 yard of Arlington.  With 20 seconds left in the game, 3rd down and no timeouts, the Rebel quarterback threw a 40 yard strike to a well-covered Rebel receiver.  The ball was caught for the touchdown and the game ended with the Rebels on top, 20 to 18.
