Ealge Jr. Midgets Lose Heartbreaker in Over Time

It was one of the first cool days of autumn on Saturday as the Arlington Jr. Midget Eagles received the ball from the Gretna Black.  In the game that followed, it was all defense for both teams.  Eagle lineman Sam Neary sacked the quarterback twice and also recovered a fumble.  Other defensive playmakers were Christopher Gorton with an interception and Tanner Smith with numerous tackles for losses.  Key players on the offensive side were running backs Ross Miller and Jack Scott and quarterback Christian Vogt.

At the end of regulation, the score stood at 0-0.  In overtime play the Eagles had four un-timed downs to score from the ten yard line.  However, the ball was fumbled and recovered by Gretna .  Gretna then scored on their first down attempt. The final score 0-6 Gretna .

Head Coach Tim Miller said, “This was the best we’ve played all year.  The kids worked very hard.”

Student Assistant Coach Taylor Johnson commented, “Due to some key position changes we had some outstanding performances.  If we keep playing like this, we’ll definitely win some ball games.”

The Jr Midget’s next game against the Elkhorn Cowboys is in Elkhorn next Saturday, September 22, at 11am .
