Eagle Jr Midgets Suffer Tough Loss in Season Opener

It was a mixture of stifling heat and windy conditions as the Arlington Jr Midgets kicked off against the Springfield Trojans on Sunday.  The kick was returned for a touch down by Springfield to give them the early lead.  With a successful extra point kick, worth 2 points in youth football, the score was 8-0 Springfield .

On the Eagles’ fourth possession, quarterback Calen Kollars threw a pass to wide receiver Jack Scott for a seventy yard touch down run, the only one for the Eagles.  After a failed one-point conversion, the Eagles trailed 22 to 6 at the half.

Running back Ross Miller was Arlington ’s leading rusher for the game, accompanied by carries from Jacob Korus and Jonathan Smailys.  On the defensive side of the ball, tackles by Christopher Gorton and Dylan Riecken put a damper on the Trojan’s running game.  Alec Stromer sacked the Springfield quarterback to shut down a Trojan drive.

Despite their best efforts, the Eagles lost 30-6.  The Jr Midget’s next game is at home on Saturday, September 8th at 1 pm versus Hickman.
