It’s
the kickoff for the Midget football team against the Springfield Trojans.
With over 3 weeks work of practice they were determined to a win. In the
first half Cody Erickson, and Cory Moravec were untouchable with the yards
adding up and the offense behind them but the Trojans came back with a long and
hard touchdown to end the first quarter with a score of
Springfield
6, and
Arlington
0.
In
the second quarter Cole Buckly came back with several defensive tackles to help
Zach Erickson get the first points on the board with an amazing safety to put
the score then
Springfield
6,
Arlington
2. After a few plays the Trojans get the ball back but today was Cody
Erickson’s day with several hard hits to the other team Erickson was
unstoppable. As the pressure was put on the Trojans it caused a fumble
witch was recovered by Zach Erickson and returned for a
30 yard
touch down for
Arlington
. But Mitchell Thompson takes the extra two points with a pass to Cole
Buckly to end the first half with a score of
Springfield
6 and
Arlington
10.
In
the second half the boys decide to take a safety on themselves to give
Springfield
extra two points to make the score 8-10. With another safety out of the
way
Springfield
comes to a halt as the screaming Eagles Cody Erickson makes a
35 yard
touchdown. With the help of the wind and the kicks and punts for Matt
O’Dell, Cory Moravec and his great runs, also the Erickson boys with their
overall tackles and safeties, and the coaching staff by their side, and our
strong over all defense the Eagles won their first game with the ending score of
Springfield
8, and
Arlington
20. As head coach Jason Weise said “the boys did a lot better in the
second half they really picked it up.” “The defensive line kept up the good
work keeping the line of scrimmage under control.” Also defensive coach
Moyer stated “the boys had a great intensity all throughout the game and were
very determined” “Cody Erickson did a great job on the offensive side for
the first game.” The next game for the Arlington Eagles Midget Football will
be scheduled for Saturday September 8, at
9:00am
against the Elkhorn Steelers located at the Arlington High School Football
Field.
